Wordle Me A Reverie

Let’s all go on a journey together. Discover something interesting and new. Take a few words and make a story. Create something bold. Beautiful. Dark. Lovely.

We’ve been talking about this book and how proud of it we are.  For today’s poetry prompt, create a reverie of your own with 13 words from 13 pieces that were in Issue One.

Here’s the list of words taken from different points in 13 poems. Some are titles and others are words in the body that struck my eye:

pearl, shades, grace, drowning, body, street, end, windmills, desperate, born, heels, precipice, immortalized

Have fun with this! Don’t forget to backlink to this post so we can check out your writing. Or you can post the poem in the comment section as well.

Whose Line Is It? | Poetry Prompt

Instead of a wordle or a description of a scene, this week’s prompt is a little different. Let’s play with a phrase this time. I’ll present to you a line or a phrase that has to be included somewhere in your poem. Be creative and be bold. Here’s the phrase:

“…it was all I ever wanted…”

Be sure to share with us your poem either by linking back to this post or copying it directly into the comments. Can’t wait to read what you come up with.

Hope you have a great week and happy writing!

Drama, drama, drama

SONY DSC

Drama isn’t so enjoyable on a day to day basis, but it’s tantalizing to write, isn’t it? The emotional strife, the feelings, oh the feelings! There’s so much to drama that happens in life to write about. And it flows beautifully into poetry.

This week’s prompt is to take a dramatic scene-a scorned lover telling him off, the star-crossed love of two teenagers (like Romeo and Juliet but in Chucks), or whatever the case may be. Play with that drama and make us feel things this week.

Daddy Issues: Poetry Prompt

Next Sunday is Father’s Day in the United States. Let’s talk about some father/daughter, father/son relationships. They can be as dysfunctional as you want or not at all. Memories of two characters, memories of your own, a pretend or real scenario, a sketch of the father you’d like to be one day, of the father you are…the list goes on. Let your imagination be your guide. I’m so interested in seeing what you guys come up with!

Make sure share it in the comments so we can all bask in your words.

Sunshine and rainbows

sunshine n rainbows

On Friday’s Let’s Talk About It… conversation, it would seem that most of us write about things that are darker, sadder, angrier, etc. Let’s try to stretch ourselves and write about something outside of the norm. A happy moment, a memory, a thought, whatever your inspiration, let the poem have a positive rather than negative spin.

Sorry this one is coming a day late. I’ve been visiting family and friends, so it’s been hard to stick to my schedule. The rest of the week will be on point.

Make sure share it in the comments so we can all bask in your words.

What emotions do you write from? | Let’s Talk About It

When I initially started writing poetry, it was because of a boy. Not the happy bits where I was so excited to get to know him and everything was magical. The hard parts where I felt like he’d ripped open my chest, snatched out my heart, and bludgeoned it with a brick.

Oh teenage angst, how I don’t miss thee.

But this did seem to start a precedent for me. I tend to draw on the sadder, darker moments for poetry. It helps me to process the moment, sure, but it also seems like an easier well for me to draw.

What about you? Do you write more about sad moments? Are the happy things that make your pen move for your verses? Or are emotions more of a part of the journey rather than a destination for your poetry?

If you have a poem that’s about a goodbye, be sure to share it for this week’s prompt.

Say Goodbye | Poetry Prompt

Today in the U.S. is Memorial Day. It’s a day where we honor our fallen soldiers and on the last Monday in May.

This week’s writing prompt is inspired by today. The theme is “Say Goodbye.” It doesn’t need to be about a soldier, just a goodbye to someone whether real or imagined.

Make sure share it in the comments so we can all bask in your words.
